Can you offer advice on affiliate marketing from the perspective of a business owner? Is it a good way to acquire traffic, or is it spammy?

Affiliates are an integral part of digital marketing and they can work.  But you'll probably need to use a different sort of affiliate strategy for your business.

Every campaign we've deployed that grossed over $1,000,000 has used affiliates/partners. Partners bring scale that we just can’t get with paid traffic alone. It has the least risk, lowest upfront cost & highest leverage.

One sales process we would recommend for you, would be:

Affiliate Traffic -> Leads -> Webinar -> Phone Call & Close

The strategy for attaining affiliates could be like the following:

Contact any complimentary business in your city (or areas or market specific niches), that could possibly endorse your offer (in exchange for a cut).  You can connect with these companies on the telephone, skype, direct mail, or even just live meetings.  Doing this personally will get a lot of them to say yes.  Having more businesses in your area endorse your offer, will make it much more credible to your buyers.  And, most businesses won't turn down a hefty commission check!

Make it easier on your affiliates by giving them all the creatives necessary to promote your offer (emails, banners, PPC ads, and everything else).

Once you have this converting, you can go to the CPA networks and ask them for geo-specific leads and only pay on a CPA (cost per acquisition) basis.  The really good CPA networks have set-up fees, but they usually give you much higher quality leads.  The reason you want to wait until your first attempts are converting, is that if you have good conversion numbers, you will have more negotiation power with the CPA networks.

This, of course, is just one of many strategies someone could use (and one that the Neil Patel team has personally used for various different launches).  We give you a good overview of CPA, Affiliate, and Strategic Partners in Modules 13, 28, and 35.
